Being born and raised in the countryside in the North of the Netherlands had its influence in the development of Vermeulen’s work. He began searching for traces and patterns in the sand at an early age. This ’treasure searching’ still is the starting point for a lot of his projects. He transforms the hidden histories in such a way that you visually get an idea of what once was.
Both the historical aspect and the dynamics of a drawn line characterise Vermeulen’s work.
